Mathematical General Relativity: Penrose diagrams, I

The goal of this series of talks is to give an introduction to mathematical general relativity sufficient to appreciate recent progress and current problems in the field, as well as to study and critique standard concepts and formulations in the hope of opening new avenues of investigation. In this talk we will begin our discussion of conformal compactifications and Penrose diagrams.
